Roger William Sherles, Sr.

Roger Williams Sherles Sr. transitioned from this life peacefully to his heavenly home Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at his home. Roger was born Aug. 8, 1049 in Russellville, Tennessee to the late Morris Sherles Sr. and Ethel Cain. He graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1966. He attended Walters State Community College. He then joined the U.s. Army and served two years in Vietnam and earned several medals. Roger enjoyed singing with the Sherles Brothers and Mighty Gospel Tones quartets. He enjoyed laughing and having fun with his family and friends. He was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Ethel Sherles; sister, Jaunita (Henry) Courtney and brothers, Robert and Edward Sherles and his granddaughter, Zyriel Palmer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Darlene Yoe Sherles; sons, Roger Sherles Jr. and Edward Keon Sherles; daughters: Yolanda Sherles Williams, Romesha Sherles Evans (Stephen Palmer); DeQuisha Sherles (Jason Tejera) and Darnesha Sherles Ardley (Marcus Ardley); brothers: Morris (Deborah) Sherles Jr., Theodore ‘Mack’ Sherles and Thomas ‘Tommy’ Sherles; sister-in-law, Roxianne Sherles; grandchildren: Ariel Williams, Alexis Williams, Jaquan Casselman, Tyrone Jones, Isaiah Sherles, Keondre Sherles, Malachi Sherles, Nehemiah Chaney, Kyson Moulden and Nia Sherles; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 in the chapel of Dockery-Senter Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2020 at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee. The family of Roger would like to convey our gratitude to those who contributed acts of love and kindness through your visits and calls, encouragement, hope, laughter, prayers and your assistance, including food. Roger was a lifelong friend that I did not get to tell goodbye.I consider Roger and his whole family very good friends. I was shocked to hear of his death and wanted to attend his funeral but had double pneumonia and was unable to attend.I hope his family understands. RIP my friend
