Blanche Baskerville

by DFH Inc. on 03/25/21

Blanche Baskerville, 90, departed this life March 17, 2021

Sister Blanche Baskerville was born May 15, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She departed her earthy vessel on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Jefferson City.

Sister Blanche was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She relocated from Cambria Heights, New York, where she was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Elm Hurst New York, where she served on the trustee ministry, as deaconess, in the choir and as a pastor’s aide. She moved to Morristown in June 2006. She always said if she moved here, she would like to join Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and true to her word she became a member December 3, 2006. She fit in immediately and the members young and old respected and loved her. Outside in the community wherever she met people she always had a kind word and left her stamp with them. Mother Blanche loved to sing and she joined the adult choir ministry and pastor’s aide ministry.

She was a hard worker from a young child to an adult. She was devoted to her children and saw they were taken care of but she was also strict; you could tell you were in trouble when she started pointing and shaking her finger at you.

She was the first black female to work as an overseas operator and then worked at Grumman Aerospace where she installed parts for the F-15 and worked her way up to administrative assistant in the supply department and again was the first black female assistant manager at the Garden City branch where she retired at 58 years old.

Mother Blanche was a classy woman who dressed and acted the part. She loved her hat, and boy could she style them. She loved her pastor and his wife and always had words of encouragement for them. She loved the Lord and always acknowledged her Heavenly Father even when her illness took over.

Mother Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew L. Nash and Rebecca Isabella (Hobson) Nash; husband, Joseph Baskerville; twin brother, Marshall L. Nash; son-in law, Wayne E. Blevins; surrogate daughters, Netfah Bell and Emily McDougald.

She is survived by son, Barry Bell; daughter, Cathy Blevins; sister, Marion Koonce; brother, Andrew H. Nash; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Blevins and Kendra Blevins; three great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Mekhi and Grace; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at Dockery-Senter Funeral Home with homegoing services to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Long Island National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
